YLLÄS TWILIGHT TIME 23.11.2012-15.12.2013

The street lights will be turned off in Ylläs every evening at 10 p.m. This will make it easier for you to see the Northern Lights. The Northern Lights can be seen in the northern part of the sky late in the evening, when the sky is clear. Along with Northern Lights, the stars, moon and snow illuminate the nights.

Turning lights off will also help to reduce our Carbon Footprint in Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park.

When going out at night to explore the stars and Northern Lights, please walk on the pedestrianized paths. If possible use a reflector or a headlamp so that you are visible to the motorists. Remember to turn off the headlight when watching the northern lights. It takes some time before your eyes get used to the darkness and see the colours. Try also to photograph the Northern Lights, on photos the colours become brighter when you use a longer exposure.

In Ylläs You can find various Northern Light activities, like snow shoeing, reindeer sledging, ice swimming from the village Sauna or floating with dry suites under the Northern Lights. More information can be found from www.yllas.fi

Ylläs Hills!
Ylläs area has 63 slopes and 29 lifts. We have  also has excellent snow park areas, super-G slope and off-piste slopes.

Snow Parks
From the snow parks you can find different kind of jumps and rails for the beginners and for more skilled riders. Ylläs has four different parks: Ylläs Park and Mountain Dew Junior park are located in the Sport Resort Ylläs area and on the other side of the fell Ylläs-Ski has Fun Park and Junior Park.

Off-piste - opportunities for off-piste skiing are plentiful on the sides of the slopes.

Cross country skiing

It is easy to start country cross skiing in the yard of Ylläshilla cottage - just 400 metres along the private trail to prepared illuminated trails. Ylläs has totally 330 km mechanically prepared trails and 38 km of these are illuminated. There are so many different routes - so you can choose a new one every day. Many of the tracks take you inside the Pallas-Ylläs National park where the pure nature is carefully preserved. The Ylläs rest stop network is made up of a total of 25 lean-to shelters and Laplander huts and 14 ski track cafés!

Northern Lights  - Come to Ylläs and admire the Northern Lights! Auroras appear on average every second night from September - to April.

Culture - Music Events f.i. Ylläs Jazz Blues, Laurin chapel concerts and songs. A lot of exhibitions and cultural events in Kellokas Natural Centre.

We take good care about our log cabin all the time. Just now we have renovated our Sauna with the new sauna stowe Harvia Kivi. It is so relaxing to enjoy Sauna now! Last Summer we bought new beds - they are all quite new now. Kaisa - the artist of our family have painted quite new pictures of the bedrooms. Raija have renovated totally and skillfully the divans of the mezzanine. Also something else we have renovated little by little.
