Summer, autumn and the autumn colours
Lapland is also an excellent tourist resort in summer. Various events are arranged throughout the year, and the area offers lots of activities for everyone to enjoy. Fishing, picking berries and hiking are popular activities in Lapland in summer. The unspoilt nature of the area is also suited to camping, Nordic walking or mountain biking. The cabin "Ylläshilla" is named after the typical berry in Lapland, namely cloudberry which is hilla in Finnish. This berry has also several other names in Finnish. The forests in the area have always been a very attractive place for hunters.
There are lots of marked hiking routes with rest areas at Ylläs, and the scenery is breathtaking. There are about 127 km of marked Nordic walking routes. Ylläshilla offers an ideal opportunity to participate in a variety of summer activities. There is a small pond behind the barbeque shelter. It is nice to bathe in cold brook water, for example after the sauna.
The autumn colours of nature are truly gorgeous. You can go hiking in the woods and admire the vivid colours or just sit on the patio and enjoy. The cabin is also decorated and furnished using warm autumn colours
You can see reindeer, Siberian jays and other Lappish animals in the front yard of the cabin.
Winter, Christmas and Polar winter
At Ylläs, the winter season begins in November and runs until May. A great opening party is held at the end of November, and you can still use the cross country ski tracks and slalom slopes as late as Mother's Day in May. Ylläs has the widest ski track network in Finland with 330 km of prepared tracks, 38 km of them lit. You can put on your skis on the front yard of the cabin and ski 400 metres to the nearest prepared ski track. If you are interested in slalom or snow boarding, it is easiest to use your own car. The nearest slope is less than five km from the cabin. There are also free ski bus stops in the area, the nearest about 400 metres from the cabin.
Ylläs has the greatest variety of slopes in Finnish Lapland, and they are 61 in number. Other activities are, for example snow mobiling (300 km of prepared tracks), husky or reindeer safaris, riding or ice fishing. There is a lot to see at Ylläs, and something to suit everyone's taste.
